Frequently Asked Questions

Platform basics

How Carvia works

Is Carvia a car dealer or trading company?

No. Carvia is a neutral marketplace platform. It does not buy or sell vehicles. Vehicles are sourced by certified exporters; buyers transact with those certified exporters through the platform — not with private sellers.

Who are the certified exporters?

Certified exporters are verified export companies registered on the platform that have passed a platform compliance and capability review. They handle sourcing, export documents, and shipping fulfillment.

Where do the vehicles come from?

Vehicles are submitted by domestic Chinese suppliers — 4S dealers, replacement vehicle sources, fleet disposals, manufacturer leasing returns, and verified private vehicle holders — through the platform's supplier submission channel.

Can I contact a seller directly?

No. Carvia's model does not allow direct buyer-to-seller contact. Private supplier data is locked on the platform. All inquiries and transactions go through a certified exporter to protect buyer safety.

Does Carvia sell new and used vehicles?

The platform lists both new and used-condition vehicles submitted by verified domestic suppliers, subject to China's export eligibility rules for each category.

Can I visit China to inspect a vehicle?

Yes. Buyers are welcome to arrange an in-person inspection visit. Your certified exporter can coordinate the logistics. Pre-visit availability confirmation is essential before booking travel.

Payment and pricing

Payment terms, CIF/FOB, and currency

What payment methods are accepted?

International bank transfer (T/T wire transfer) is the standard for vehicle export transactions. Payment instructions are issued by the certified exporter through the platform's official communication channel only.

What is the difference between CIF and FOB?

FOB (Free on Board) means the certified exporter delivers the vehicle onto the vessel at the named Chinese port — buyer covers freight and insurance from that point. CIF (Cost, Insurance, Freight) includes freight and marine insurance to your destination port.

Are there other Incoterms available?

CFR (Cost and Freight), DAP, and DDP terms may be available from specific certified exporters depending on destination and order size. Confirm with your certified exporter at the quote stage.

Is shipping always a separate cost?

It depends on the agreed Incoterms. A CIF or DAP quote includes freight. A FOB quote does not. Always confirm what is and is not included before accepting a quote.

Inspection and documents

Vehicle condition, inspection, and shipping documents

What is the Export Ready Score?

The Export Ready Score is a 100-point, platform-verified rating covering vehicle condition, document completeness, export eligibility, and destination-market compliance. It is never a seller self-declaration.

What happens if a vehicle is Export Locked?

Export Locked means the vehicle has a compliance issue — it may not meet the 180-day rule for new vehicles, or it may have destination-admissibility problems. The Quote CTA is hidden until the issue is resolved.

What documents will I receive?

Standard export documents include Bill of Lading, commercial invoice, packing list, certificate of origin, and any destination-specific or EV-specific documentation. Your certified exporter provides the full document set.

Does every vehicle get inspected before shipping?

Platform policy requires condition review, photo verification, and document checking before a vehicle is listed Active. Pre-shipment confirmation is completed by the certified exporter before loading.

Shipping and customs

Shipping timeline, customs, and destination rules

How long does shipping take?

Transit time depends on origin port, destination, and shipping method. Typical ranges: Middle East 20–28 days, Africa 25–40 days, South America 30–45 days, Central Asia by rail 10–18 days. Your certified exporter provides route-specific estimates.

Who handles customs at my destination?

The buyer (or a local customs broker) handles destination-side import clearance. Your certified exporter provides the complete document set required for customs. Local import duties, taxes, and registration fees are the buyer's responsibility.

What are the age limits for importing vehicles?

Age limits vary by country — commonly under 5 years, but some markets allow up to 8 years or restrict to under 3 years. Always confirm your specific destination rules before finalizing a purchase.

Are there special rules for EVs?

Some destination markets require OEM authorization letters for battery electric vehicles. Emissions standards, charging-standard compatibility, and EV-specific homologation requirements should be checked before order confirmation.

Chinese brands and dealer support

Chinese EV brands and dealer partnership

Which Chinese EV brands are on the platform?

Listings include vehicles from BYD, Changan, Chery, Geely, Great Wall, Zeekr, Li Auto, Voyah, Jetour, Avatr, and other NEV and ICE brands based on certified-exporter sourcing availability.

Are Chinese EVs reliable?

China's EV industry is among the most competitive globally, with rapid improvement in battery technology, range, and build quality. Buyers should still evaluate model-specific after-sales and local service availability in their market.

Can I become a local dealer or import partner?

Overseas dealers and fleet buyers interested in ongoing Chinese vehicle supply can discuss a partnership arrangement with the platform team.

What is Carvia's role vs. a certified exporter?

Carvia provides the marketplace infrastructure, compliance screening, and Export Ready verification. Certified exporters provide sourcing, export fulfilment, and buyer communication. Both are needed — and both are distinct.
